Table Top Easels
There are many kinds of easel designs that are available in the market, each with its own set of pros and cons. Variety always means that you can narrow down on precisely the kind of easel that matches your needs. There are some that are meant for heavy painters who do paintings on a regular basis, while there are others that are for the small time artists that only engage in painting when the spirit moves them. Table top easels have long been a choice for most artists for a variety of reasons.

For starters, there is the issue on space. Most dedicated painters have a special room where they get to do all their paintings. But there are the other painters that do small-scale work and these usually find it harder to find any dedicated place to do their artwork. It’s this group that the table-top easels are meant for. They usually fit in any available space, though a table is needed to give them a vertical boost to the position where you would be most comfortable doing the painting from. They usually have a solid base to give enough strength to create immobility so that you don’t move them back and forth as you paint your canvas to life. This is not achieved to perfection, unfortunately.
Second is the issue of portability. Most artists look for inspiration when it comes to doing their paintings. It’s not always confined to the art room and at some point the artist will be forced to tread the great outdoors in the hope that a great idea will find them. And when it does, it’s always best to have all the painting supplies in place so that you can get painting right away. They are lighter than the free standing designs, though their height limitations- without a table or related piece of furniture- may always come to be their downturn, and as such, most mobile artist prefer a freestanding design, especially the tripod kind.
Table top easels are limited to the painters that do their paintings when they are standing. It’s really hard to paint on a table top easel when you are seated because of a variety of limiting factors. You are usually in more control of your painting when you are standing because the easel holds the canvas in a vertical or near vertical orientation. Like other easels, these ones too allow for the verticality of the canvas or painting surface to be adjusted to the most suitable angle.
When it comes to large canvases, the table top easels are not recommended. They usually offer a limited painting surface owing to their designs and large scale painters, or at least those that use large canvases. Thus a free standing design is best at this point because if offers you more room and more strength. Ensure that you make all the right considerations before you go buying a table top easel. Make sure that its compromised lack of legs or ground standing apparatus will not create any kind of inconvenience for you.
