Was given some similar advice when i started out, cos i was trying to do it all and be excellent, and its the best advice!!! People cant hear u in ur bedroom, studio etc So no matter how bad it sounds, DONT WORRY!

stick with the vinyl! if you are worried about availability of records, you can always be a virtual DJ and use serato or torq. cdj's dont have the same feeling and are frowned upon by most (although, some cdj users actually have better skills than some vinyl dj's).
