Part #4: Making Shared Parenting Work
You don't have to be perfect to create a secure attachment with your children. It is never too late to create positive changes in children's life as things adjust and evolve. If you have strong communication with your children at least one third of the time, it should be enough to support a secure relationship. No parent will interpret their children's needs correctly all the time, so try to create healthy interaction. As your children grow, there will be times of disagreement. Make sure to set limits to strengthen your children's need for safety within the relationship. If your children are angry or pouting, understand their feelings, but remain firm. Eventually, your children will give up because they need to reconnect. Respond positively and immediately when your children try to reconnect. Through your attitude and actions, your children will understand that your love for them prevails through the divorce.
