The song is a statement about the futility of life and finding a purpose. It echoes many ideas found in a book of the bible called "Ecclesiastes".Now, I am not saying that it is a religious song or that the author of the lyrics intended to restate Ecclesiastes. I am pointing this out to show that it is a deep and recurring theme of the human experience here on earth.
