this is one of my role arias - and while beautiful interpreted in this - he sounds as if he has no head resonance and therefore - the flat sounding pitch - it is sort of in the right globe of the pitch but at the bottom of the shape - altho some really bad intonations of pitch near the end - his turn in engel for eg...but you know what - i would trade places any day

Oh! Burn!Bang on too. Not just flat intonation wise, either. Sounds flat tone too, like his soft palatte is stuck to his naval or something.

Yeah I hear it too...not the entire time, thankfully, but much of it...

this is quite intersting. Unfortunately I don't understand all. Would you please explain "connection problems in the recit" (what is 'recit'?)
bonerjones04 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
it is unfortunately a bit below pitch. He also has developed a tremor in his lower jaw to compensate for the lack of vibrato due to connection problems in the recit. the aria is gorgeously done, and the language as only a native speaker can do. Think of these singers as athletes. Imagine Mohamed Ali fighting today, or Michael Jordan taking on Kobe, or Montana vs. Brady. Voices mature with age, but only to a point, and the body must contain that voice. Prey is one of the greatest ever.

Such a beautiful voice! and I agree with lio82... his singing is really slightly flat -- not seriously flat, just every not is not quite there...

Wonderful tempo! Bravo Hermann Prey!

That's the most calm and effective rebuttal I've ever read. I second your saying "can any one else sing 'flat' that beautifully?".
Hjadlowker (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Oh, he does? I can't really tell... your'e obviously a much better musician than I am. All I hear is a glorious voice and a warm performance. Can any one else sing "flat" that beautifully?

The tempo is not wrong, if the singer can frase that way you can do it.Total poetic, frase by frase, like Klemperer german ideal, no regular subdivision, no metronome at all. That is German School, tone and fluidity.I like this version very much. |
