Nice to see that you can still spot Jim Tyer's animation in these Deitch shorts. That's him toward the end, when Gaston says "You have insulted Gaston!"

Terrytoons in the late 50's needed a kick in the pants and thank God that Gene Deitch was there to do it. There was no tangible difference between a Heckle and Jeckle cartoon made in 1947 or 1957. They looked and sounded the same.Deitch threw away the rule book, and just created all these new characters like Clint Clobber, Gaston le Crayon and Tom Terrific. He also had the good sense to hire Dave Tendlar out of Paramount, but still keep many of the old guard including Jim Tyer.

I love these old cartoons. They're so much better than what they're coming out with now.

This was originally released theatrically in CinemaScope {wide-screen} in 1958, and directed by Dave Tendlar [who had just finished a long stint as animator/director at Paramount's Famous Studios cartoon unit in New York]. Allen Swift is the voice of Gaston, and just about everyone else....

Some may complain about the picture qualitybut I for one, am glad to see it! Thanksa heap, retro!
