Not bad plagiat.

You may be right. I based my remarks on a couple of quick Google searches on those two names. I am pretty sure I am correct on Oshanin, that he died in 1997. Regarding Ostrovsky, I found a Russian correspondant by that name who is still alive and works with several Western media outlets. This includes several of his sound clips. He speaks excellent English!

FYI Arkady Ostrovsky died in 1967. And the movie that list Oshanin (together with Ostrovsky) as a songwriter was made in 2006, 10 years after Oshanin's death.

I didn't think about this. A good point! :)

It may be that this bit of plagiarism was unofficially condoned to get the work of Ostrovskiy & Oshanin exposed to a wider audience. Be that as it may, Oshanin became a consultant in Western cinema studios before his death in 1997. And Ostrovsky is now a Russian correspondent for several Western news media. So both of them did get this exposure to the Western world. Good show!

If I am correct, what we in the West would call the intellectual property rights to "May There Always Be Sunshine" would have been owned by the Soviet government. So it might well be that they were doing what any good manager will do with his material, try to get it exposed to a wider audience. The Cold War being what it was in 1964, this would have required a bit of subterfuge. That would explain why they never protested this "borrowing".

There is not much argument about the origin. Soviet song is an anti-war political statement. This video's lyrics are a love song. But the tune sounds like a marching song with trumpets. It looks like somebody took Soviet song, created different lyrics and didn't care to change the style. A lazy, unimaginative steal. Bjorn is one of my favorite musicians, I wish he didn't participate in this show. But this has already happened, so be it. :)
