Thank you Darryl. You provided that touch of inspiration I needed today. My manuscript is complete. However the real work begins ... ISBNs, Bar Codes, Wholesaler vs Distributor, Reviews, Amazon, Forecast for initial print order, 60% Discounts, etc. etc. (This part makes writing the book seem easy - LOL) But I agree with you it is DO-ABLE. Especially w videos like yours out there, thanks again.Barbara Kent, author/compiler of soon to be published book SUCCESS: In the Words of the Masters.

I am publishing a book via LULU, "XEON-The Message of Pascal", abut a 500 million year old computer being discovered beneath the surface of Earth in early years of 21st century. Coming out in 3 weeks. publishing is publishing.

I have a gold book idea that I am currently developing. My problem is: Where do you self publish?

I couldn't agree more!

Awesome! Thanks for making this video, Darryl. I'm not a talented writer by any means, but I love publishing my own crazy books and I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon.

thanks for posting this! i'm going to self-publish my book, and so i really needed to hear this! it really shows that self-publishing can work!

In my experience, only if you do the hard work of phoning bookstores directly, telling them about your book, and asking them to order copies. I did this in the beginning and sold about 400 books this way, but I hate this part of the game, and these days I tend to concentrate on internet sales.

If you want to get your books in stores...will self-publishing accomplish that? or can it for that matter?
darrylsloan (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Oh, if you're in this game to make a regular wage, forget about it. :-) It's doesn't pay that well, even for the majority of traditionally published authors, I hear.

One of my other problems is that I don't want to take the risk of not getting a fairly regular paycheck... I have three daughters and am married and we are barely eeking by a living as it is... I fear that if I took off "regular" work in order to work on my writing would hurt us more than help us...btw, I "know" gracebridges... |
