this bull caribou had just previously fought off a pack of wolves for hours !(notice the leg injury) and was exhausted when the bear came upon him and did not have the strength to run away. saw this video years ago and that was with the story about the wolves included.

The caribou had an injured rear leg before the battle. The grizzly knew this and took advantage of the situation. Mother nature has a way of eliminating the weak and injured.Terrible Tom--Green Bay

well i think the caribou was the agressor, the caribou had a chance too run and decided not too. the bear was defending its cubs if you watch closely when the bear is charging across the river it stops half way to look back at its cubs
