Thanks for sharing this with us. Backstage with Rick Danko and Levon Helm from The Band, what a thrill! Rick was already gaining weight, that must be in the early/mid eighties, I presume? Did you have a (real) conversation with him, or what is only partying?

robin, Rick gave me a smile and a look that said "i know your not supposed to be here" backstage. He was much more personable than Levon. He was wearing a black shirt and i could tell he was starting to gain weight at that time.

You right, I read about it just minutes ago. I presumed that he died of a drug overdose because he tried to smuggled heroine into Japan where he was in 1997, but at the time of his dead he was clean, so it seems. He died of heart failure, but sadly enough had drugproblems throughout his life. Partly because he used drugs as a painkiller. He suffered from physical pain since his car accident in 1968, where he had broke his neck and back in six places... horrible.

i like how robertson is singing so much, but they had his mic off the whole night!! (if you've ever heard him sing you would know why)

Rick died from heart disease or something related, but definently not a drug OD.

And how was it? Is it true that Rick could be really wild? Such a shame that he died of a drugs overdose. Only the good die young...

I really like Rick Danko's vocals. They sound so vunerable and beautiful.

Have you noticed pretty much every kid under the age of 30 over uses the word Annoying? I can't stand that generation social assholes with no appreciation for true Rock Gods like the Band.
