They weren't supposed to be "black"- the voices established here were definitely not "racial", 'Golum'- especially the ones created for the "team" by Dayton Allen in 1947- far from being "offensive", "Heckle & Jeckle" became Paul Terry's most successful cartoon series after "Mighty Mouse" in the '40s...

Now I always heard that originally Heckle & Jeckle were supposed to be "black", you know jivey and all that, but it didn't play down south.Can anyone confirm?

The first of what would become the "Heckle & Jeckle" series, released in 1946. Dayton Allen is the voice of the magpies {although Tom Morrison has a few words as the "male one" in the argument at the beginning}, "Farmer Alfalfa" [in one of his last screen appearances], the "dumb dog", and the "Real estate magpie"... |
